He is survived by: his wife Ruth Smithson; his sons, Michael L. Smithson of Elizabeth City, NC, Craig Smithson (Janice) of Oxford, NC, Stephen M. Smithson of Winfall, NC, A. Wayne Smithson of Camden, NC and Anthony Smithson (Dawn) of Elizabeth City, NC; and his sisters, Marjorie Roberts of Currituck, NC, Grace Keeter of Camden, NC and Dolly Batts of Beulaville, NC. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
