She was predeceased by: her parents, Waverly Phelps Sr. and Winifred Smith Phelps; and her brother Waverly Phelps Jr.. She is survived by: her brothers, John Phelps (Susan) and Michael Phelps (Susan); the father of her children Thomas Jones; her daughters, Danielle Jones Smithdeal (Shaun), Nicole Burton (Alex) and Rachel Jones (Evan); her grandchildren, Kayleigh, Toula, Sonja and Abram; and her close friend Richard Struck.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's name to the Chesapeake Public Schools Educational Foundation and N.E.S.T Outer Banks.
