He was predeceased by: his father James Lee Sawyer; and his siblings, Emeretta Duncan, Andrew Sawyer, Frank Sawyer, Charlie Sawyer and James Sawyer.
He is survived by: his children, Christi Sawyer Overton of Camden, NC and Stephen Tracy Sawyer (Shirley) of St. Louis, MO; and his grandchildren, Samantha Loftus, Cody Sawyer and Jarrett Overton. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
