He was predeceased by : his grandparents, Rufus, Laura Staton, Robert and Estell McCown; and his close friend Troy Barnes.

He is survived by : his parents, Carolyn Faye Garnett and Harold Thompson; his wife Candace Staton; his children, Tanisha Staton, Bryce Staton, Ryan Staton and Kendal Staton; his granddaughter Journei Sherel Wilson; his brother Tyshawn Taylor; his extended family, Rev. Phillip Knight, Sr., Margarett Knight, Lambsdell Garnett, Mary Burden, Phillip Knight, Jr., Tamara Knight, Phillip "Tre" Knight III and Kayla Knight; and his friends, Andre Bush, Kyle Joyner, Troy Long, Dave Williams, Raymond Williamson and Shane Moye.

A funeral service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Rock Hill Baptist Church (4271 Rockhill Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111). A burial was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at the Sunset Memorial Park (2901 W Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831).
