He was predeceased by: his wife Virgie Gilmer Akers; his grandsons, Gabriel David Akers and Elijah Douglas Altis; his parents, Don Akers and Aletha Akers; and his siblings, Kenneth, Gene, Calvin, Alvin, Leona Darlene, Ruth and Larry.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Akers Havens, Jeff Akers (Becky), Eric Akers (Missy), Cheryl Altis (Doug) and Lisa D. Akers; his grandchildren, Matthew Havens (Sara), Daniel Havens, Josh Akers (Ashley), Nathaniel Akers (Whitney), Mikaela Akers, Ashley Altis, Austin Altis (Jenna), Caleb Altis, Grace Altis, Jacob Altis, Evan Akers (Taylor) and Hope Akers; his great grandchildren, Oliver Akers, Emerson Akers and Caroline Altis; and his sister Maybelline Holcomb. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Lewy Body Dementia Association, or the Michael J Fox Foundation.
