She was predeceased by: her parents, Claude Swanson and Winnie Gay Wright Compton; her husband Alvin Herbert Akers; her former husband Clarence "Mink" Viers; and her siblings, Carl, Don, Gordon, Mack "Whitey" Compton and Fran "Cheek" Cumbee.
She is survived by: her daughter Pamala Viers (Lance Terpenny); her grandchildren, Jocy Vuiller (Matt Vuiller), Sammi Sheppard and Lincoln Sheppard; her great grandchildren, Caius, Miles and Evelyn; and her sisters, Dorothy Howery (Jimmy Howery), Cathy Meador and Pat Barnett (Melvin Barnett). She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Program.
