He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ruth Hall East; his wife Betty Sue Nunn East; his son Jimmy Lee East; and his siblings, Jessie East Mitchell, Mary East McAlexander, William Greene East, Sam Ed East, Evelyn East Williams, Nancy East Vipperman, Henry Akers East, Annie East Welch, Robert Hampton East and Thelma East Holt.
He is survived by: his father William Henry East; his sons, Tim Lee East of Varnville, SC and James Fred East, Jr. (Silvia M. East) of Morehead City, NC; his grandchildren, Michael East, Thomas Herron (Lauren) and Luis Herron (Cortney); and his great grandchildren, Mason Thomas, Giancarlo Herron, Giovanny Herron and Southerland Herron. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
