He was predeceased by: his parents, Bob Mitchell and Lucy Chaney Mitchell; his wife Faith Boyd Mitchell; and his siblings, Nonnie Mitchell, Murrey Mitchell, Tommy Mitchell and George Mitchell.

He is survived by: his daughter Cheryle; his son-in-law Grady Carroll, III; his son Gary Mitchell; his grandchildren, Mendy, Scotty Donnelly, Summer, Jeffrey Stephens, Grady Carroll, IV and Ashley Carroll; and his great grandchildren, Madison Barlow, Reese Cline, Trey Stephens, Gabriel Cline, Emily Carroll and Maggie Carroll. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
