He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herbert Ernest Mays Sr. and Josephine Rose Gardener (Sparks); his wife Diana Louise Edwards (Virginia); his children, Christopher A. Mays Sr. and Melissa A. Polendey (Robert); his brother David Jonathan Gardner (Suzanne); and his grandchildren, Tiffany Mays, Christopher Mays Jr. (Amber), Kimberly Abrams, Britney Mays, Christina Abrams, Justin Mays and Kyla Abrams Trakney (Zachary).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Amherst Chapel (1600 Amherst St, Winchester, VA 22601).
