He was predeceased by : his father John Coghill "Jack" Downer, Jr.; his brother Ronnie Downer; his son-in-law David Caputo; and his great grandchild Caleigh Behrens. He is survived by : his wife Janice Roles Downer of Covington; his children, Karen Caputo of Wilson, NC, Susan Behrens (Hank) of Russell, KY, Greg Downer (Julie) of Covington and Gary Downer of Vienna; his brothers, Richard (Priscilla) of Covington, Jim Downer (Theresa) of Covington and Steve Downer (Donna) of Newport; and his grandchildren, Amy Caputo, Kevin Caputo, Austin Behrens, Melaina Whitt, Heath Behrens, Brooke Wolfe, Jack Downer, Victoria Behrens, Emma Dowman and Lauren Downer. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to The Gideons International, Alleghany Gideons, P.O. Box 764, Covington, VA 24426.
