He was predeceased by: his parents, Phillip J. Smith, Sr. and Edna Pearl Persinger Smith; and his sisters, Virginia "Jenny" Smith and Bonnie Neal. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Ann "Ritzy" Jackson Smith of Covington; his daughters, Cheryl Gonzalez (Fabio) of Bealeton, Cindy Robinson (Ray) of Roanoke and Crissy Smith (Robert Baldwin) of Hot Springs; his brothers, Jerry Smith (Debra) of Hot Springs, Eddie Smith (Mary Sue) of Hot Springs and David Smith (Mary) of Hot Springs; his grandchildren, Grace Gonzalez, Josiah Robinson, Brandon Robinson and Kleigh Sharp; his stepchildren, Jeff Wolfe (Melissa) of Selma and Susan Cale (David) of Evans, GA; his stepgrandchildren, Krista Goodman (Travis), Scott Wolfe (Brooke), Austin Cale (Kaitlin), Tyler Cale and Christian Cale; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew Thomas, Julie Goodman, Kara Goodman and Trevor Goodman.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 12:30 PM at the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home (405 Alleghany St, Clifton Forge, VA 24422). A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24422 or to the Alzheimer's Association, or simply do a kind deed for someone in P.J.'s memory.
