He is survived by: his wife Mary Townsend of Chesterfield; his son Tommy Townsend (Robyn); his grandsons, Noah of Stanley, NC and Benjamin of Stanley, NC; his siblings, Gene Townsend of Solomons, Maryland, Barbara Wagner (Lynn) of Chesterfield, Wayne Townsend of Richmond and Willard Townsend, Jr. (Patti) of New Kent; his nephew David Townsend (Sabrina); his great-niece Abby of Hollywood, Maryland; his niece Susan Balding (Bill) of Great Falls; his nephew John Wesley Townsend (Katie); his great-nephew Jack; his great-niece Perkins of Mechanicsville; his nephew Will Townsend (Katie); and his great-niece Waverly of Quinton.
