He is survived by: his close friend Elba Rodriguez Santiago; his children, Melvin Matias and Betsy Loran; his grandchildren, Keisi D. Dickens, Kevin A. Figueroa, Christian O. Loran, Keili D. Loran, Miah M. Matias and Mariah M. Matias; his great grandchildren, Ava S. Burrell, Bryson L. Dickens, Alejo E. Figueroa and Kyson D. Dickens; and his siblings, Virginia Matias Lopez and Moises Matias Lopez.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
