He was predeceased by: his wife Carmen Miles Steele; his parents, James Steele and Bessie Enoch; and his siblings, Charlie, Sam and Peggy.

He is survived by: his sons, Mark Steele (Joyce) and Kevin Steele (Theresa); his grandchildren, Amie Lesser (Sean), Emily Walthall (Colin), Kristen Steele, Ethan Steele and Bailey Steele; and his great grandchildren, Charles Lesser, Lucy Lesser, Maxwell Walthall and Lane Walthall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
