He was predeceased by : his parents, George Elbert Garten and Minnie Ellis Garten. He is survived by : his wife Mary Beth; his sons, George Mathew "Matt" Garten (Kristen Byer Garten) of Covington and Robert Christopher "Dizzy" Garten (Heidi Sparks Garten) of Glen Wilton; his grandchildren, Matthew Tate Garten, Thomas Henry "Hank" Garten, Georgia Ann Garten, Robert Maxwell Garten and Ellis Elizabeth Garten; his sister Patricia Garten Johnson of Covington; his mother-in-law Elma Jayne Putnam; his sister-in-law Amy Putnam Haymaker (Thomas); and his nieces and nephews, Christopher "Chris" Johnson, Todd Johnson, Anne Marie Johnson Strum, Amiee Johnson Merrins, George Taylor, Jackson Haymaker and Sawyer Haymaker.
