With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Howard Hammond (Covington, Virginia), who passed away on December 3, 2021 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his siblings, Charles Barnett Hammond, Sr., Frank H. Hammond, III and Rebecca Deyerle Hammond Croft. He is survived by: his sister-in-law Karen Hammond; and his nieces and nephews, Lisa Hammond, Charles Hammond, Jr. (Libby), Steven Hammond (Alison), Robert "Robin" Croft, Jr. (Cathy), Susan Croft Scott, Cameron Hammond Carlin (Tom), Gavin Willhide (Jessica), Brookfield Willhide, Curry Willhide Blanton (Brian), Wesley Hammond and Scott Hammond.

In keeping with Mr. Hammond's love of local and family history, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to The Alleghany Historical Society P.O. Box 384 Covington, VA 24426 (please specify The Discovery Center) or the Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society, 515 East Pine Street Covington, VA 24426.
