It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joanne Myers Austin of Covington, Virginia, who passed away on May 31, 2023, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Ruth Myers and Leon Myers of Covington; her former husband Eddie Austin; her son Timothy Edward Austin; her nephew Gene Austin; and her brother-in-law Tommy Austin.

She is survived by: her sister-in-law Mary Austin; her cousins, Wayne, Lola Hylton of Knoxville, TN, Linda, Seth Williams and Robert Vitrikas (Chris) of Barboursville; and her pets, Macy and J. J..

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington VA 24426.

“I am sorry to hear about Ms. Joanne. My godmother shared a room with Ms. Joanne at Alleghany Health and Rehab. Ms. Joanne became part of our family. My godmother passed in March, but I continued to visit Ms. Joanne. Her grocery list consisted of coke, chitos and butterfingers. I had just visited on Memorial Day. She knew who I was. She smiled and thanked me for the drinks and snacks. We talked and ended our visit with "love you". She was a special lady! ~Kathy Britt, Eagle Rock VA”
