He was predeceased by: his parents, Linwood E. Whitmer and Ruby Rae Whitmer; his wife Patricia Mae Snead Whitmer; and his siblings, Wayne Whitmer and Patricia Matheny.
He is survived by: his children, Charles "Woody" Whitmer (Kim) of Yorktown, Alan Whitmer of Covington, Gary Whitmer of Covington, Robbie Horn (Jeff) of Covington and Jackie Baker (Jeff) of Covington; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Lodge (Matt) of Covington, Neil Horn of Covington, Jessica Hise (Brad) of Covington, Jeri Hinebaugh (Dwayne) of Covington, Jason Persinger (Kelly) of Roanoke and Meagan Whitmer of Roanoke. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
