She was predeceased by: her siblings, Hazel, Theresa, Gladys, Alberta, Elise, Easter, Gloria, Leroy, Otha and Lenzia; her son-in-law Tommy Sampson; her grandsons, William Stewart and Bryan Palmer; and her spouse Dennie Stewart.
She is survived by: her close friend Thomas Dickerson, Sr. (Deaconess Stewart); her children, Curtis (Priscilla), Leonard (Leah), James (Eleanor), Carolyn Palmer (James), Rev. Rosetta Stewart, Darlene Stewart, Deborah Sampson, Cora Poteat (James) and T. L. Dickerson; her brother Rev. Charles R. Nowlin, Sr. (Sandra); and her goddaughter Jackie Hobson (Andrew). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, cousins and close friends.
She was instrumental in creating a building fund collection jar where she personally stood in front of the church on Sunday mornings and collected donations.
