He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Edward and Rosemary "Polly" Gilliland Gibson; and his siblings, Gaynell Weese, Sissy Sizemore, Ruby Tawney, Margaret Rose "Missy" Grimm, Buddy Gibson and Mark Gibson.

He is survived by: his wife Kathy Givens Gibson of Covington; his children, Mike Gibson (Lorri), Chris Gibson (Susan) and Tonya Taylor (Tony) of Covington; his grandchildren, Hunter Gibson, Hannah Gibson, Brantley Gibson, Brianna Taylor, Blake Taylor, Grace Gibson and Simon Gibson; his brother Hugh "Buzzy" Gibson (Shelby) of Poquoson; and his siblings-in-law, David Weese of Covington, Greg Givens (Nancy) of Covington, Thomas Givens of Covington, Carlene Gibson of Covington and Louise Ruble of Salem. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial donations in Mr. Gibson's name be made to Mallow Presbyterian Church at 2004 Mallow Rd. Covington, VA 24426 or to the Shenandoah Autism Center at 550 Pine St. Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
