With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mary Frances Mays-Davis (Covington, Virginia), who passed away on April 28, 2018. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Perry F. Wright and Naomi Simmons Wright; her husbands, James Thomas Mays and John Lee Davis; and her niece Laura Drumheller Thomas.

She is survived by: her sisters, Ella Wright Scott (Max) and Helen Wright Young; her niece Suzanne Scott Holley (John); her stepdaughter Julia Lee Davis Brooks (Larry); her brother-in-law Berkley Mays (Mary); her nieces, Tammy Mays Davis (Harry) and Sandy Mays Garber (Bill); and her nephew Rick Mays (Melinda). She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Frances requested donations to Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, 1000 Dabney Drive, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

“Mary Frances is one of the dearest friends I have ever had. From the first time I met her via my work in the court system, she always impressed me with, not only her competence and commitment to the job, but also with her strength, wisdom, personal faith and kind, gentle heart. I count myself as one of the fortunate people that had the opportunity to work with her in the Virginia District Court System. She was sincerely dedicated to public service during her long tenure as Clerk of the Alleghany County General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts. She enjoyed great esteem among her colleagues locally and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Her contributions to improving all levels of clerks’ office services were enormously significant and effective. Rest in peace, my friend.”
