He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Harper and Myrtle Puryear Ragan; his wife Margaret Newcomb Ragan; and his grandchildren, Ann Kimberly Johnson and Dylan Harper Ragan.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Johnson (Johnny), Barbara Fitzgerald, R. Howard Ragan, Jr., Willie Ragan (Janice) and Alice Faye Echols. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
