He was predeceased by: his parents, Alcie Glenmore Yates and George Yates; his brothers, Jesse, William (Virginia), Melvin, Walter Burgess and Glenn (Sandra); and his brother-in-law Carl Crawford.

He is survived by: his wife Patsy Gray Yates; his children, Pamela (Rodney) of Culpeper, VA, Bryant (Darlene) of Albemarle, VA and Glenda of Culpeper, VA; his grandsons, Erik and Myles; his siblings, Mabel Crawford of Culpeper, VA, Matilda Poland of Woodbridge, VA, Molly Yates of Culpeper, VA, George Yates (Gretchen) of Culpeper and Ricky Yates of Culpeper, VA; and his sister-in-law Barbara Yates of Culpeper, VA. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Thomas was the kind of man who showed love through action, whether donating to the church, offering help to anyone in need, or buying candy for the neighborhood children just to make them smile.
