She was predeceased by: her parents, Marion Alfred Spicer and Ruby Jane Jenkins Spicer; her husband Charlie R. Coates, Sr.; and her siblings, Joyce Nalls, Hazel Pote, Tommy Spicer, Ruth Leach and Carlton Spicer.
She is survived by: her children, Charlie "Chuck" Coates, Jr. (Judy) and Cynthia "Cindy" Jones (Virgil); her great grandchildren, Tommy Settle and Stephanie; and her grandchildren, Bobby Jo Jarvis (Brooklynn), Charlie, Coates, III, Chelsey Jones, Courtney Jones Weaver, Brian (Charlie), Carley Jones Jack and Matt. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to New Salem Baptist Church, 8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA or Slate Mills Baptist Church, 10 Church Lane, Sperryville, VA.
