He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph W. Spitz and Ellen J. Spitz (Yarker); and his siblings, Joseph F. Spitz, Gerald A. Spitz and Judith E. Nordberg (Spitz).
He is survived by: his wife Brunhilde (Hilde); his children, James Albert of Bedford, VA and Susan Elaine Jamison (Spitz) of Roanoke, VA; and his sister-in-law Deanna Spitz of Keuka Lake. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
