He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy McGhee and Hilda Dalton Brown; his son Jon-Patrick McGhee; his brother Oscar Dalton; and his grandson Marshall McGhee.

He is survived by: his children, Tracy Lynn McGhee, Bradley McGhee (Deborah) and Donnie W. "Spike" McGhee, Jr. (Cheyenne); and his siblings, Betty Bravo, Carolyn Kendrick, James and Roger McGhee. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren.
