He was predeceased by: his parents, Effie Kendrick Wells and James Acree Wells; his wife Doris Rachel Yeatts Wells; and his siblings, James, Dennis, Emmett, Harold, Hassell Wells, Mary Marlowe, Elma Herndon and Ruby Burge.

He is survived by: his son Chris Wells (Vrindar) of Blairs, VA; and his siblings, Virginia Herndon, Nadine Tyler and Jack Wells. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
