He was predeceased by: his father Edgar Parrish Atkinson; and his sister Lisa Atkinson McDowell. He is survived by: his mother Susie Vaughn Atkinson Arrington; and his close friend Charlene Barksdale. He is also survived by his mother, as well as two stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

“Aunt Susie, I was shocked after hearing that Gerald had died. He and I had just spoke about two weeks ago. He told me that he took my advice and took his mustang out for a 35 mile ride. He was one of my closest cousins even with the geographical distance between us. Well, he's his eternal home now, reunited with his dad and sister Lisa. Taken too soon but, we can reflect upon the fond memories of him. I pray that GOD gives you the comfort and peace that you need. God Bless, Ray Atkinson”
