He is survived by: his wife Leah Elliott Cooter; his sons, David Guy Carter (Kelly) of Atlanta and Steven Ricker Carter (Nicole) of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Ethan, Laurel, Jack and Ellie; and his sister Ramona Hodnett.
