He was predeceased by: his siblings, Rayford, Paul Mitchell, Charlie Mae Mitchell Earp and Mary Mitchell Rippy; and his parents, Charlie Sylvester Mitchell and Eva Mae Beckham Mitchell.

He is survived by: his wife Buna Hazel Carswell Mitchell; his daughter Claudia Mitchell Phillips; his son-in-law Thomas E. Phillips, Jr.; his granddaughters, Kelly Phillips Grubb and Melissa Phillips Janes (Kenny); his great grandchildren, Olivia, Abby Grubb, Paige and Patrick Janes; and his sisters, Irene Mitchell Howard and Audrey Mitchell Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
