With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James William Howerton of Danville, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on August 8, 2025 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by: his parent Melvin Howerton (Bessie Rich Howerton); and his siblings, Herbert Howerton, Glen Howerton and Minnie Heath-Easley. He is survived by: his wife Loretta Newton Howerton; his daughters, Emma Jo Edholm (Greg) and Mary Ann Howerton; his grandchildren, Josh Cassell (Katelyn), Chris Stanfield (Merryn), Jessica Stanfield and Jon Cassell; his great grandchildren, Jack, Maddie, Chloe, Zevon and Destiny; his great great grandchild Leila; his siblings, Charles Howerton (Jan), Mildred Emerson, Stella Emerson and Vivian Hall (Clyde); and his pet Jack. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
