He was predeceased by: his parents, John Claude Lovell and Geneva Rigney Lovell; his wife Cornelia Anne Gentry Lovell; and his brothers, Kermit Lovell, Jack Lovell and Edsel Lovell.

He is survived by: his children, Cynthia Lovell and Denis Lovell; his granddaughter Sharon George; his great grandchildren, Kyle and Gavin George; and his siblings, Ann Lovell Carden (Ralph), Lucy Lovell Barker (W. Onico) and Bud Lovell (Ann).
