With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Matthew Oliver Nelson III of Danville, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 2, 2026 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Matthew Oliver Nelson Jr. and Neresa Nelson; his former wife Nancy Calvert Nelson; and his half-brothers, Bobby and Billy Evans.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Nelson; his children, Matthew Nelson IV and Lynn Wood (Roger); his grandchildren, Devin Wood, Kolton Nelson and Haley Wood; and his great grandchild Ryan Wood. He is also survived by his family and his friends.
