He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Edward Darnell and Sylvia Rye Darnell; and his brothers, Donald E. Darnell, Jr. and James Ashley Darnell. He is survived by: his children, Angela Dixon of Eden, NC, Melissa Ann Darnell of Danville, VA, Brandy Lynch (Barry) of Bridge City, TX and Philip Sheldon Darnell, II of Danville, VA.; his siblings, Joseph E. Darnell (Sherrie) of Dry Fork, VA, Deborah D. Hiatt of Danville, VA and William W. "Bill" Darnell of Danville, VA; and his close friend Wayne Dodd. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
