He is survived by: his wife Cathy Scott Bateman; his daughter Darby Shaw Bateman; his grandson Christopher Wade Helm; his sisters, Nancy B. Stout of Brosville, VA, Tina B. Hyler (Rick) of Cascade, VA and Connie B. Maitland (Rod) of Danville, VA; his niece Angie Barett (Thomas); and his nephews, Adam Maitland (Megan) and Bobby Ray Stout (Morgan).
