He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Irvin Matthews and Lucy Mae Hobbs Jones; and his siblings, Hazel Jeanette Taylor, Mary Irvin Huffman and Jewel Edward "Junebug" Matthews.
He is survived by: his son Robert Thomas Matthews; his sisters, Joann Horne (Roy), Elsie Milam and Betty Lou Lawhorn; and his cousin Kathy Davis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church (16300 Mt Cross Rd, Dry Fork, VA 24549). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
