He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert L. Hanes and Beulah W. Hanes. He is survived by: his wife Katherine Hanes; his children, Brian Hanes (Melissa Hanes) and Karen Borgerding (Tyler Borgerding); his grandchildren, Levi, Hunter, Trevor, Ellie, Annette and Nathaniel; and his sister Brenda Absher (Gene Absher).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Dunkum Funeral Home (16923 Oak St, Dillwyn, VA 23936). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 at the Hanes Chapel Cemetery (1171 Copper Mine Rd, Dillwyn, VA 23936).
In addition to flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Hanes Chapel Building Fund.
