He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mason and Edna Frances Armstrong (Stogdale); his grandson Michael Robert Lassle; his children-in-law, Charles "Duke" Rexrode, Darrell "Junior" Gumm Jr., Steve Gallagher and Joan "Joanie" Heavenrich; his siblings, William "Bill" Armstong and Ethel A. Garber; and his sisters-in-law, Shirley Armstrong and Betty Armstrong.

He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Ruth Armstrong (Nichols); his children, Michael "Mike" Armstrong (Georgeanne) of Doe Hill, Kenneth Armstrong of Doe Hill, Pam Lassle (Dan) of Terry, MT, Jim Hiner of Monterey, Becky Rexrode of Verona, Larry Armstrong of McDowell, Scotty Armstrong (Sherry) of Doe Hill and Penny Armstrong of Doe Hill; his brother Joe Armstrong of Bridgewater; and his grandchildren, Cody Armstrong, Kristen King, Tracy Rhodes, Timmy Armstrong, Nathan Lassle, Jordan Lassle, Brad Gumm, Lindsey Gumm, Tyler Rexrode, Lucas Rexrode, Stephanie Armstrong, Dillon Armstrong, Bryan Armstrong and Colby Armstrong. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
