He was predeceased by: his father Sam Kennedy; his grandmother Lula Rowe Kennedy Corvin; his wife Velma Ruth Viars Kennedy; his stepfather George Ribble Corvin; and his siblings, John, Lonnie Kennedy and Irene Kennedy Vanover.

He is survived by: his children, Tim Kennedy (Kellie), Pulaski, Michelle Armbrister (Ben) and Draper; his grandchildren, Angel, Terry Buckner, Taylor, John Maynard, Sally Armbrister and Mary Armbrister; his great grandchildren, Shianne Buckner, Seth Buckner, Johnny and Wyatt Maynard; and his siblings, Ocie Ellen Kennedy Lester, Agnes Bernice Kennedy-Reed, Virgie Marie Kennedy Mullins, Dora Faye Kennedy-Goins (Harold), James Estil Kennedy (Gladys), Wytheville, Allen David Kennedy (Becky) and Charles Edgar Kennedy.
