He was predeceased by: his parents, Stuart Ray Dunavant and Gertrude "Gerty" Bernice Walker Dunavant; his sisters, Bernice Dunavant Thurston (Bill), Shelby Jean Moore (Bill), Dunavant Moore and Wiladean Yost; and his in-laws, Herman Tickle and Lucille Tickle.

He is survived by: his wife Loretta Jean Tickle Dunavant; his children, Douglas Ray Dunavant (Robin), Dublin, Charles Stuart Dunavant (Courtney), Pulaski and Kathy Sue Landreth (Rodney); his grandchildren, Samantha Sutherland (Lee), Shae Caldwell (Ray), Jennifer Dalton (Darren), Jordyn Rose, Heather Dunavant, Kari Ray Perfater (Kevin), Hunter Bailey and Payton Banks (Trey); his great grandchildren, James Sutherland (Emily), Brooke Wagoner (Cole), Kaci, Kylie, Kinsley Caldwell, Atleigh Dalton, Graycen Dunavant, Karson, Kyler, Kayden Perfater, Braelynn Bailey and Beau Banks; and his siblings-in-law, William Fred Yost, Ernie Sproles and Evelyn Robinette.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Bower Funeral Home (1631 Bob White Blvd, Pulaski, VA 24301). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9th 2025 at 12:30 PM at the Max Creek Baptist Church (3000 Old Rte 100 Rd, Draper, VA 24324).
