Benton McEwen James Obituary

We are sad to announce that, on May 5, 2026, at the age of 85, Benton McEwen James of Elberon, Virginia passed away. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Benton McEwen James to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Benton Lloyd James and Nola Doris Edwards James; and his brother Phil James. He is survived by: his wife Carole Lane James; his children, Alan "Booga" James (Tonya), LuAnn "Sis" Shultz (Winston) and Kay "Toots" Tate (Matt); his grandchildren, Matthew James (Katie), Adam James and Jocelyn Shultz; his great grandchildren, Bailey, Blakely and Beau James; his sisters, Faye Blume and Sue Thomas; his stepson Jessee Tate; and his son Fisher (Mickey Lane). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Surry Volunteer Fire Department or plant a tree in his honor.
