He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Lee and Elsie Lee Shifflett Bruce; and his siblings, Ollie Dale Bruce, James E. "Jim" Bruce, Raymond Bruce, Donnie Bruce and Mary Widdowfield.
He is survived by: his wife Julie Bruce of Elkton; his children, Brandon Bruce, James Bruce, Carroll E. "Gene" Bruce Jr., Theresa Bruce and Crystal Knighton (Adam); and his siblings, Buddy Bruce (Pat), Lottie Diehl (Richard), Shirley Eppard and Janet Shifflett. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Sunday, August 30th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kyger Funeral Home - Elkton (115 Nicholson Rd, Elkton, VA 22827). A funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
