He was predeceased by: his parents, George Washington "Ben" Dean and Dora Lee Herring Dean; his son Jonathan Lam; and his sister Donna Faye Dean. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Meadows Dean; his pet Yorkie (Dozer); his daughters, Hope Clatterbuck (Mark) and Destiny Lam; his siblings, David Dean, Peggy Miller (Steve) and Terry Powers (Rick); his grandchildren, Nathan Breeden, Matthew Shifflett, Katelyn Shifflett, Zack Shifflett, Bethaney Lam, Savannah Washington, Gabby Jones (Jeff) and Bradley Lam; and his great grandchildren, Layne Shifflett, Emerson Shifflett, Maddox Shifflett, Everly Shifflett and Brixley Lam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
