He was predeceased by: his parents, Ophelia Mitchell and Charles Morris Cockrell; and his brothers, Timothy S. Joseph and Maurice E. Cockrell. He is survived by: his wife Clarine F. Cockrell; his son Bernard Lee Cockrell, Jr. of Springfield, Virginia; his stepchildren, Jerome Freeman (Latonya) of Rock Hill and Lisa Freeman of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his brother Melvin Cockrell (Linda) of Abbeville, Louisiana; and his aunt Neva Sanders of Silver Spring, Maryland.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home (9902 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22032). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A reception will be held on Saturday, December 20th 2025 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the same location.
