He was predeceased by: his parents, Manuel Leal and Luz Leal; his wife Martha; his brothers, Santos and Servando Leal; and his cousin Gumecindo Leal Sr..

He is survived by: his children, Diana Christensen (Kurt) of Garner, NC and Ray Leal of Stafford, VA; his grandchildren, Melissa Christensen of Boston, MA, Lindsay Zappala (David) of Raleigh, NC, Kaleigh and Austin Leal of Richmond, VA; and his brother Esequiel Leal of Santa Maria, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Manuel's memory to Wounded Warrior Project or Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
