She was predeceased by: her parents, Edith Chickering (Gile) and Arthur Chickering; her former husband Arthur Adrian Wheeler; her husband Earl McKay; and her close friend Paul Hirt.

She is survived by: her children, Anna Sue (Wheeler), Alan Gibbs of Concord, NH, Lawrence Wheeler of Culpepper, VA, Elizabeth (Wheeler), Ignacio De La O, Jonathan and Lindsay Chickering of Nokesville, VA; her grandchildren, Christopher Gibbs of New Durham, NH, Jeremy Gibbs of Sanbornton, NH, Deana Sietz of Seattle, WA, Carlos De La O of Raleigh, NC, Daniela De La O of San Angelo, TX, Cali, Tanner and Kyler Chickering of Nokesville, VA; and her great grandchildren, Michael, Josh, Austin, Caleb and Kendyll Gibbs. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews, friends and well loved “step and adopted” family..
