It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Chester Spence of Ferrum, Virginia, who passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Chester Spence to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Spence and Armilda Spence (Watts); his wife Pat; and his siblings, Charles, Guy, Freddie, Buddy, Mary, Thelma and Milda.

He is survived by: his children, Melissa Barthelmas-Shelley of Cookville, TN, Dean Spence (Joy Shelton) of Dearborn Heights, MI and Kenneth Spence (Catherine Johnson) of Ferrum; his sister Vada Cordell of Athens, AL; and his niece Pat Smith (David) of Shelby, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Christian Heritage Academy or to the Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Guest and Volunteer Services.
