He was predeceased by: his parents, George Estel and Ethel Louise Allen (Turner); his wife Onva (Huffman); and his siblings, Mary Huffman and George Denzil.
He is survived by: his children, David (Deborah) of Charlottesville and Dreama Thompson (Earl) of Staunton; his grandchildren, Andrew Thompson (Staunton), Daniel Thompson (Crystal) and Janna Snell (Staunton); his great grandchildren, Christopher Thompson (Staunton), Jeremiah, Brooklyn Snell (Staunton), Aeryn and Mary-Anne Thompson (Roanoke); and his siblings, John (Julia) and Audrey (Luis Ciriaco). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mint Spring United Methodist Church P.O. Box 14 Mint Spring, VA 24463; or to the American Cancer Society.
