He was predeceased by : his parents, James Maxey Bowles and Nora Katherine Atkins Bowles. He is survived by : his children, Kimberly B. Held (Carl), Heidi B. Toler (Wayne), Gerald D. Bowles, Jr. (Joy) and Kenneth Crawford; his grandchildren, Casey Rawson (Steve), Cory David Held (Alison), Joshua Ryan Bowles (Tyler), Caleb M. Bowles (Lanee) and Jessica Crawford; his great grandchildren, Emerson Rawson, Lincoln Rawson, Evelyn Held and Colton Held; and his siblings, Raymond A. Bowles, Roger Dale Bowles (Louise) and Joyce B. Hicks.
