He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph William Houck and Katherine Kemp Houck; his children, Dorothy "Bunny" Houck Saleeby and James Langhorne Houck; his brothers, Joseph Thomas Houck, Dr. Kemp Houck and Dr. Peter Houck; and his former wife Judie Perkins Houck.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Cyrus Houck; his daughter Dr. Kay Houck Tasso (Eric); his brother Leighton Houck (Pinky); his granddaughters, Suzanne Saleeby-Alqudah (Mohammad) and Christina Kay Tasso; and his sister-in-law Brenda Cyrus Wilson (Stuart). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church (4693 Everett Rd, Forest, VA 24551).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Free Clinic of Central Virginia, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
